About The Contest

The Denshaw Whit Friday Band Contest began in 1993 and in it’s first year attracted 25 bands.

Since then the contest has grown into an established well supported annual event frequently attracting over 50 bands enjoyed by 100’s of supporters.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Bands turn up at the contest on the night to play and the committee have no idea which bands will choose to play at the Denshaw contest. Denshaw has always been lucky enough to attract a wide range of bands to include Championship, Youth, European and even those containing a wedding party (see left).

The adjudicator (Allan Holdsworth) is situated inside the Oddfellows Club for the evening and is hidden from view of the bands. Allan records comments on each performance and awards a score for each. This score is then used to find the winners within each of the prize category on offer at Denshaw.
